Downed characters are out of the fight unless brought back by supernatural means. They do not automatically gain Wounded until after surviving Death's Door.
Downed status can be indicated with a black marker or by laying a threefold on its side. Alternatively, the mini can be removed from the battlefield altogether.
The Damage Result just sustained is optionally written down. In the next Morale Phase, and every subsequent one unless dead or Stabilized, the downed character checks against death:
Survival = DR + Vigor
+ Morale
+ Level
+ 4 if non-lethal attack
- 2 if Wounded
- Damage Result just sustained
(8 if forgotten, or 5 if Wounded)

If healed when Down and not yet Stabilized, he immediately Stabilizes instead of removing a Wound.
Any Downed characters who survived Death's Door are Wounded if they weren't Wounded already.
To see how long they are out, make one additional check with the same modifiers as in Death's Door.

If the Wound is removed by any means, they regain consciousness and may act normally immediately.
Unconscious characters roll again after gaining consciousness. Any Result <= 0 means they cannot act until Wound is removed.
